Then our team of 21 testers run the wax off nearly 150 pairs of skis, critiquing them a...

      I have the same issue, especially with dress shoes. Oxfords are difficult, Derbies are possible. It's the high arch. But there are lasts which work but you have to do research. Or have bespoke shoes. Running shoes it's almost the same, but bespoke is not really an option. You have to try out as many brands as possible.

    Wow. That’s a sobering video. Of all the 14ers, for me Maroon Bells (South Peak) was the most tiring. Round trip from the valley took me 13 hours. My climbing partner met someone on the summit and decided to tackle North Maroon. He made it fine, but I decided to turn back and just call it a day with a down climb back to our campsite. It was the hardest route finding of any of the 54 14ers. I would stand for minutes and plan the next 100 feet of horizontal and vertical. The Bells are no joke. I am so sorry you lost your friend. Good selection of gas stoves but limited to only canisters. What about the Wood burning stoves like the Solo Stove or the Silver Fire Scout and even the Firebox stove just to name a few. All three can also be used with a Trangia alcohol burner in place of a wood burning fire. They are a double duty stove for a backpacker. Offering a selection of fuel , carry some alcohol with you for the Trangia or pick up the branches as you go along. Then there are the Fancy Feast alcohol stoves a person makes from a cat food can that a lot of folks use today.

    the one sling knotted is effectively two slings for anyone who commented about that. Secondly two opposing qds is fine, third if you do it this way you don't need lockers on the bolts and you can have one locker as your master point or two opposing non lockers. This guys thing is safe just more than you need....

  • @culturaldeviant
    @culturaldeviant 8 лет назад

    I used to be a professional climbing guide. Let me just say that this method is "safe". However, it is not optimal. The chances of someone getting hurt on this setup is slim, but with a little more care it could have been bulletproof. E.g. The top two biners should be down and out; and two slings with a sliding x would create a redundant self-equalizing safer anchor. Also, as a side note (and I only say this from experience) but I generally shy away from screw locks on bolts. I have seen them run the rock and either back-screw and jam the gate open or thread so tight that I've had to leave them on the bolt. (Which is also why I started to carry a leatherman on trad climbs)

    • @eyescreamcake

  • @Zyoung1236
    @Zyoung1236 8 лет назад

    Wow, I understand redundancy, but there's such a thing as too redundant, which none of you commenters seem to understand. This toprope setup is fine. Those bolts won't break, that sling won't break, and the lockers will not flutter and break. It's top-roping for fucks sake. Lightweight static loads will not break any of that gear. If you guys don't trust the gear, then don't fucking climb. Go play board games if you feel so damn scared of safe equipment. Better yet, go talk to some AMGA guides so they can show you how little gear they use for topropes.

    Bollocks to all the nay sayers! Most people who have commented on the sliding X have prob only seen mike barter vids anyway!( though to be fair he is excellent)Let's be honest, it's top rope, your never going to impose fall factors so great that the anchor is going to fail( with exception to the rock failure or damaged bolt placements). This works fine it is equalised in two good bolts, overhand means if one fails the other catches( shock load yes but for the fall in top rope...that equates to little more than body weight, maybe body weight X 2 if your belayer is sleeping! This works fine! We could all pick and say ooo but knots weaken the sling or the krabs should be opposed in the bolts gates away from rock but let's be frank... It makes fuck all difference, and knots don't weaken the slings enough to cause an issue like it is suggested! Christ, if everyone looked at what weakens gear and what doesn't work this week but did last week, no one would climb no gear would pass standards and no instructors would ever instruct anything! Pl is we'd be like ooo better retire that nut, some anodised paint has scratched off! This lad is clearly happy that he has gear, likes the sound it all makes and just wanted to show a youtube video of it! He hit the main points and I'd have top roped on that, hell iv taken wangars on less with placements that would make you gear geeks weap! Nothing dangerous here, just basic!
